Brazil Residence Routes: Documents and Decision Matrix

Compare the facts and documents needed to assess family, work, investment, retirement and remote-work residence routes in Brazil.

Updated:

Choose a residence route from your actual activity, family connections and supporting evidence. A route name or a headline financial threshold does not establish eligibility. Consular visas, residence authorizations, Federal Police registration and eventual naturalization are separate steps.

What changes the document sequence?

Criminal certificates, civil records and supporting statements may have validity requirements. Obtain the current receiving-authority checklist before paying for apostilles and translations. Resolve name discrepancies and document format early. Applicants abroad should check the responsible consular post; applicants in Brazil should check the applicable in-country procedure and lawful status.

What happens after approval?

Confirm registration, address reporting, permit duration and any conditions for renewal or change to an indefinite term. A residence card is not a passport. Naturalization has separate residence and evidence requirements; do not assume time on every temporary permission counts the same way.
