What happens after you send this
- 1 A lawyer reads it. Not an assistant, and not an automated qualifier. We aim to reply within one business day (Monday to Friday, UTC−3); a message sent on Friday evening is answered on Monday.
- 2 That first reply tells you whether this is a matter we should take, what we would need from you, and what the realistic sequence is. If it is not a matter for us, it says so.
- 3 If it is, we book the consultation. Sixty minutes, by video or telephone, in English or Portuguese. We explain the scope, fee and documents needed before you book. Further work requires a separate engagement.
- 4 You are told which partner owns your file, with their OAB number and direct email, and you get the scope and the fee in writing before any work beyond the consultation begins.
When we are not the right firm
We are licensed in Brazil. That is the boundary, and it is worth knowing before you write:
- We do not advise on US, UK or other foreign law. Where a matter needs both, we work alongside your counsel there — we do not replace them.
- We do not take criminal defence.
- We do not handle matters that are already being run by another Brazilian lawyer without first speaking to them.
If your matter falls outside what we do, the first reply will say so, and where we can we will point you somewhere better.
How payment works
You receive an engagement letter and an invoice issued by ZS Advogados Associados. Payment is by international wire, PIX, or card through our checkout. Third-party costs — cartório emolumentos, ITCMD, sworn translation, court fees — are estimated in advance and billed at cost, with receipts. We do not accept payment into any personal account, and we will never ask you to send funds to an individual.
